DM's Rising Stars and Featured Artists - June 2009
Helzcullen aka Hellen Cullen (Rising Star for June)
This is the first time I have ever done a literature feature in my Monthly features, but this one had to be done. I was browsing casually around DA looking for some decent poetry, when i discovered Helen here. This was the poem that got me hooked. Read this first before you go on...
Didn't I tell you that was great!? Now there are some other works here like 'The Fly', 'Dad', and 'nineninenine'. These are all different subjects that show the versatility and talent of this amazing writer. I can't remember reading a really good short story, or poem with such amazing imagery, and strong metaphoric content that really evokes the emotions within you, since reading the masters back in high school. She does this for fun, but it's obvious, that she can and should do more in the future! I have become one of her biggest fans. And those of you into GOOD literature will be too. Great job Helen. This month Helen aka HelzCullen is my Rising Star for the month of June.
Anasrist
This is one of my favorite pieces from this artist. I think if Rogue were a real woman, this is what she would look like. I am in love with the emotion captured here. Anyone that is a fan of the X-Men, and especially of Rogue, know of the daily struggles she goes through, and the burden of her mutant powers, and her difficult love life. Anasrist here captures all of that beautifully in one piece.
This artists work captures really vibrant and very calming artwork. It's pleasing to the eye, and a pleasure to look at. Go check this guy out, and encourage him to do more! Great work.
Lycan 90
This is the picture that caught my attention to Lycan 90. A unique cartoon style, and specialized in anthro art, Lycan pulls it off nicely without feeling too weirded out by looking at it. (No offense to you anthro lovers out there.)
The biggest thing that struck my attention though, is if you take the time to go back to his gallery, you will see a style that he began with. Perhaps one taken from a favorite artist he liked. (Fred Perry! )Over time though, you begin to see his own unique style emerge, and it is great! He is still revealing and discovering his style, and when it's all said and done, which looks to be the case really soon, there is going to be some really dynamic art that will stand out even more so than it does now. Go check this artist out and please give him your support!
I came across some great artists this month. Some that are not normally highlighted by myself. I hope to find more exceptional works in the months to come, and will share them all with you in the hopes that you all will begin to share your support with these ones, and encourage them to keep moving forward in their craft; giving us great things to see, and providing that interchange of inspiration that we all as artists constantly need! So until next month, be cool!

Hey Mang, Rantz mentioned you had some free commision slots open... I loved the colors you laid down on Chun Lee and was wondering if you wanted to slash some life on an Ink peice I did of Wolverine for Tincan21. [link]
